In Our Classroom


Students access the curriculum through a variety of hands on, interactive and group activities to develop their skills in the various strands of Writing and Representing, Reading and Viewing, Speaking and Listening, Reflecting, and Thinking Creatively and Imaginatively. Students have the opportunity to engage in public speaking, debating and drama to further enhance their communication skills.



Children participate in mathematics lessons that build on and extend prior learning in engaging learning experiences. They develop their proficiency in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability as well as the over-arching strand of Thinking Mathematically. The focus is on building fluency with number facts, real world problem solving and developing confidence and flexibility around using mathematical concepts.



Through individual and group work, whole class activities and excursions, students learn about their world and how to investigate the world they live in. Students will learn about the development of the Australian colonies and the process that led to Federation. In Science, we will be working our way through a unit of work entitled Living World. The focus will be on working as a team to build necessary science skills and linking with other KLA's where possible. In Technology sessions, students will be developing their skills in the safe use of computers to carry out effective research, editing work and publishing presentations in a range of formats. In addition, students will continue working with Scope IT and learning how to code. Preparing our children for future technology is a vital aspect of their education.


Personal Development, Health and Physical Education:

In PD, students are learning about Sun Safety, Cyber Safety and Identity. In Health, they consider the components of a healthy diet and how their social network develops through their childhood years. They participate in PE on Tuesdays. In Terms 2 and 3, Friday Sport consists of PSSA soccer, PSSA netball or ball games on school grounds.



Fortnightly homework grids are sent out on Tuesdays and due in every Monday. The grid includes a wide range of activities including researching, writing, drawing, talking, reading and other home-based tasks. The weekly tasks include daily reading, spelling, Reading Eggs and Maths Online revision activities. The work is completed independently by the student, with the exceptions of tasks requiring talking with a parent or playing a game with the family. The grid is designed to be holistic and recognise the uniqueness of each student's home life. It is also designed to motivate students to want to take responsibility for their own learning and thereby take the stress out for parents.

In preparation for high school, students are called to further develop these necessary qualities:

Year 6 is the final year of primary school and an exciting time as students can take a leadership role in our school. We work together with high schools to assist our Year 6 students to have a successful start to high school.

Getting involved

There are great opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities. These include competitions, exhibitions, sport, performances and special events. Student leadership programs provide many activities that broaden your child's experience at school.

Selective high school test

This year applicants can sit for the selective high school placement test if they are interested in applying for entry to a selective high school. The test has reading, writing, mathematics and general ability components.
