Parent and caregiver involvement The school actively encourages a close working relationship between parents, students and teachers to enhance all aspects of school life. Parents are always encouraged by the school to participate in their child's education. Parent teacher interviews, a comprehensive assessment package and the introduction of a 3 way parent-teacher-student interviews are all intended to promote a strong, collaborative community. To the further benefit of all students, many parents contribute their skills and support in a variety of areas. Assistance with specific programs such as reading, mathematics, technology, gross motor, debating, sports activities, excursions, music activities, library cataloguing and school banking. Operation of the canteen, clothing pool, school band, child care (OOSH), book club and grounds maintenance are all parent dependent and have been very competently managed this year. The School P&C Association TOP There’s no doubt that Mt Kuring-gai is a great place to be, whether you’re a student, parent or teacher. The P&C is part of a strong community that works together with the teachers of the school to make sure this tradition continues. Social events are one way we try to bring the community together. By creating friendships between parents and between teachers and parents, everyone works together to help all students reach their potential. We recently held a school bush dance that attracted over 250 people - not bad for a school with 170-odd students. And yes, the P&C also raises much-needed funds for the school, but we try and link fundraising to specific goals rather than for it’s own sake. Sometimes we manage to have a little fun with it too! The monthly P&C meetings are a chance to find out what’s going on in the school. There is always a member of the teaching staff there to provide feedback on the school’s direction and upcoming events. Parent projects, ideas and concerns also get a good hearing. Interested in having a further look? Great - we’d love to see you! Meetings are held at 8pm on the first Wednesday of every month during term-time. Ross School Auxiliary TOP School is fun! This is a time when not only the children have the opportunity to make new friends, but we, as parents also have that opportunity.
At the school, we meet in the playground
or work together in various ways to support the school.
Mt Kuring-gai School Auxiliary, under the
umbrella of the P&C meets on the first Monday of each month at 9.30 am in
the staffroom. The school principal attends the meetings to give a report,
and is happy to discuss any questions we have. Babies and toddlers are
welcome to come with you to the Auxiliary meetings. The Auxiliary is responsible for a variety of services and activities within the school, including:
Canteen Cake Day Book Club Mothers & Fathers Day Stalls Orientation Day morning tea, clothing pool and child-minding. Morning teas for various occasions.
Fundraising
We are lucky at Mt Kuring-gai to have so
many wonderful people in the school community who help out in so many ways.
The old saying 'Many hands make light work' is certainly true. If you’d
like to be involved, come along to a meeting, or just let us know if you can
help in some way for an hour here or there. Any contribution we can each
make is certainly appreciated by the students, families and staff at Mt
Kuring-gai.

The school's P&C Association coordinates a number of fundraising activities throughout the year to raise money for the enhancement of school facilities and programs which might otherwise not be provided due to funding constraints. Families are encouraged to support these activities to ensure we are able to continue to offer the high standard of resourcing which is of benefit to all students.
Our annual 'fun raising' events are:
Our Mountain Festival TOP
Our Mountain Festival is a fun fair or
fete which is steeped in history.
Our Mountain Festival is usually held
towards the end of the school year and is a bi-annual event. (every 2 years)
The way that we run the Mountain festival
is not that different to back in the old days. Some of the attractions at Our Mountain Festival, for all you country folk, are:
Now, down to the really fun stuff!
The Bush Gambol is a bi-annual event organised by parents for families at the Mt Kuring-gai School. The Bush Gambol is a leisurely bush walk from Mt Kuring-gai to Apple Tree Bay at Bobbin Head for a picnic and/or barbeque. The day gives parents a great opportunity to meet and socialise with other parents outside the school playground. Come along or help organise the next one for a fun family day out.
The school Uniform shop
is situated in the small building near the Administration Block and is
operated by volunteer parents every Friday morning between 9.00 - 9.30am.
The following uniform items are available from the shop:
A Book Club for students, run by parents, operates at our school. Book brochures are sent home with students and orders may then be returned to the school within a specified period. Orders are delivered to students when they are returned to the school. Whilst the school receives bonus books from the purchases, there is no obligation to buy.
Mt Kuring-gai School Canteen operates on Monday during first term and fourth term and on Monday and Thursday during second and third term. Its operation depends solely on volunteers working on a roster basis. If you are able to assist it would be very much appreciated. Students are asked to bring their lunch order written on a paper bag together with their name, class and correct money and place it in the 'Lunch Order' bin outside the office before 9.30am. The Canteen is open at recess and the first half of lunch for the purchases of drinks, ice blocks and snack foods. A canteen price list is available from the School Office. All proceeds from the Canteen are used for learning resource material for children.
Mt Kuring-gai school is fortunate to have fantastic grounds in a bush setting for our children to play. To maintain the high standard of our school grounds parents are asked to assist with the grounds maintenance. Its only twice a year and we need your help to trim the trees and scrubs, weed and mulch the gardens, and remove excess leaves. Parents involved make the day enjoyable and fun, so come along to the next grounds maintenance day and help to keep our school beautiful
