YEARS 5 AND 6 AT POINT WOLSTONCROFT CAMP

Together Year 5 has constructed the following exposition.

We strongly believe that each child in Australia should visit a Sport and Recreation camp at least at once. Obesity in children is rapidly increasing. These camps build confidence and independence which are valuable life skills. Children are exposed to new experiences where they can develop skills and conquer fears. This great opportunity should not be missed.

We must tackle the problem of childhood obesity before it becomes much worse. Camps involve lots of running and exercise which encourage children to be sportier, more active and athletic. At each activity children are given fruit to eat while at meal times they have a wide range of vegetables and meats.

Being away from their parents for up to a week teaches children to be more independent. At camp you have to do the dishes, clean, serve meals, be on time, wake up on time, pack your own bag and go to bed at the correct time. At camp you meet new people and make new friends. Your social and relationship skills develop along with your confidence.

New skill development is extremely important. Sport and recreation camps help develop skills in areas such as rock climbing, archery, kayaking and sailing. These activities help to conquer fears of heights and promote responsible risk taking.

In conclusion we strongly believe that all children should be given the opportunity to attend a sport and recreation camp. They won’t regret the experience of camp.

SUPPORT FOR MARYVILLE SCHOOL

Report by James, Year 3

Last Friday, 13th March, K-6b was raising money for Maryville PS because the school was sadly destroyed by the scorching fire.  Lana and the SRC came up with the great idea of having Freaky Friday.

First of all I put a gold coin in my bag.  Secondly I got into my humiliating costume.  After that I drove to school with my mum.  When I arrived I found everyone playing in the playground in mufti.

It was class time and everyone sat on the floor.  Mrs Wasowski asked the students to place the gold coins in a plastic box.  I was 6th so I walked up to the front of the classroom and placed my gold coin in the plastic box.  An hour had passed and the lunch bell rang.  I couldn't wait until the sausage sandwich got into my stomach.  The Year Ones were sitting under the cola eating their sausage sandwiches.  I ran out of the classroom and towards the front of the canteen.  I was first in line.

I sat under the cola with my hot sausage sandwich in my hand.  I was so hungry I ate it up like a giant eating a pea.  I was very tired and ready to go home.  The bell rang and I ran out of school with my sister.  "What a day!" I said to myself in a tired way.
