THE HARE AND THE TORTOISE
A Narrative by Year 1
students
One
day a hare met a tortoise. The hare teased the tortoise because he
was too slow. So the tortoise said, “Let’s have a race. I bet I can
win.”
The hare replied, “Come on
slow-poke. I’ll race you.”
Then they set off but the hare
ran so fast and so far ahead that he decided to have a rest.
Meanwhile the tortoise kept plodding along and crept quietly past
the sleeping hare. Before he knew it, he reached the finishing line.
In the morning the hare woke up
and dashed off towards the finishing line. When he arrived he
realised that the tortoise was already there. The hare shouted, “I
was supposed to win!”
The moral of the story is ‘Slow
and steady wins the race.’
